This is the scene that placed LOTR deep inside my heart… The frailty of man displayed, and the miracle of a changed heart and the tenderness that can be found between corrupt human beings.

‘i tried to take the ring from frodo, [boromir] said. ‘i am sorry. i have paid…. i have failed’

‘no!’ said aragorn. ‘you have conquered… be at peace…’

South garden

the south garden patch, mid august: last night i smiled at the single pepper that has grown in one of the three remaining pepper plants. but this morning i discovered it had been a feast for bugs last night. now i’m wearing my sturgeon face. this garden has been an exercise in futility. first i lost all the cabbage & spinach & then most of the pepper plants. the cherry tomato plants appear to be fine, but no blossoms yet.

the north garden patch, mid august: this week, within three days, some sort of blight destroyed all the pumpkin, winter squash, zucchini & cucumber. earlier this week i discovered light gray freckles & assumed i was dealing with a plant mold. one treatment includes a ground cinnamon solution. the next day the pumpkin leaves were completely gray & all the blossoms gone. then we used another organic solution, but that didn’t seem to help either. so this morning i cut all the affected pumpkin leaves & discovered one pumpkin plant with green leaves.

the corn suffered another ravaging. i suspect it is from a raccoon i spotted in late july. only the stalks remain & i plan to cut them down later today.

on a good note, the family has enjoyed zucchini, cucumber & beefsteak tomatoes from the north garden. the zucchini & cucumber plants appear to be concluding their yield while the tomatoes are just coming in to it.

maybe it’s too early to tell, but i think i’ve lost all the pumpkin, winter squash, & zucchini plants. the cantaloupe & cucumber plants don’t seem to be too far behind the pumpkin plants. i really suspect it’s a plant mold due to all the rain this area has had recently. the beefsteak tomato & cherry tomato plants appear fine.

no one said organic gardening would by easy.

these digital laws are fallacious… my hd crashed after editing a large soundtrack pro audio file due to unavailable space… since i live in third-world-asheville, energy source is limited due to power outages on clear, sunny summer days… need i continue?

Awesome! Congrats on reaching the bottom. I thought you might want to stay there, so no reblogs yet.

yeah, i reached tumblarity nirvana… it reminded me of an episode of the muppets… i got the t-shirt & turned out the lights… now i just want to tumble on

the south garden (or the pepper & tomato patch) at mid july: 1 hot banana pepper plant & 1 jalapeno plant are still struggling to grow in this shady spot. the 4 bell pepper plants began to blossom. i think i may have a few spare dollars to buy additional pepper plants to fill in the empty space in the garden.

The north garden

the north garden patch, mid july: though a quarter was destoryed by a very hungry critter, there are still a variety of un harmed plants: 4 pumpkin plants, 4 winter squash plants, 4 zuchini plants, 10 canaloupe plants, 4 cuccumber plants, 10 beefsteak tomoto plants & 6 cherry tomato plants.

i’ve heard it’s not to late in these parts to replant spinach plants. anyone know if that’s true?

something thing attacked the north garden late saturday night, early sunday morning: i’m not sure if it was a raccoon or the groundhog couple that was spotted late last week.

52books: Let the wild rumpus start!

when i realized the kidlinger’s library didn’t have this book… i went out & bought it… right after dinner at frank’s pizza…

vela: sunshineismine: HAH! mattynicegy00: True Story

at first, i laughed self-consciously, nervously.

second, i got a little upset, because some of us men do try very damn hard to write everything we know about the women in our lives on those blank pages. some of us men actually remember anniversary dates, watch the kids on a 3-day holiday weekend so you can visit friends, change diapers, stop smoking cigars (because you asked), come home from work early, listen to you talk about the stuff of life, take you to your favorite seafood restaurant & there’s more that can be written on those pages.

but lastly, i want to apologize to women who have been surrounded by men who don’t even bother to know a woman’s desires & needs. it’s these men that think one falls in love. falling in love is like a tug of war with both the man & woman pulling the rope, making each other fall. in reality, you lean into love the way you lean into each other during a three-legged race. lean into each other, ache, get muddy, sweat, fall down & rise up together. love is messy & requires hard work. but since that’s too much work for some men, please return to your espn, nintendo wii & porn sites, objectify the women in your life as if they don’t hurt & then chuckle nervously at those blank pages – your life is empty.

but i suspect that there are women out there that have a personal story about a specific man (or maybe a couple men) that hurt you. and maybe the book title should read: ‘everthing [insert man’s name here] knows about me.’ & maybe there are women out there who don’t know there are hard working men that want to know everything about you & they want to fill all those blank pages with anniversary dates, lists of favorite things that make you happy, things that drive you crazy, places that make you feel secure, times to listen & talk into the night about the stuff of life & fall asleep shortly before sunrise.

& i think this is the most i’ve written in years…

the north garden patch at the end of june: i thought for sure that storm that came through on june 18 wiped out the sweet corn, but with kidlinger help the corn survives & thrives. it’s the pea plants that seemed to have withered (but i don’t believe the storm had anything to do with it).

again, for those keeping record: 4 pumpkin plants, 4 winter squash plants, 4 zuchini plants, 10 canaloupe plants, 4 cuccumber plants, 10 beefsteak tomoto plants & 6 cherry tomato plants.

also, 1 raccoon & 1 groundhog have been sited in night sorties.

less than $100 have been spent on the gardens. no pesticides or herbicides have been used with the exception of natural, organic pesticides (like cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon & the like).

the gardening strategy handbooks used: trowel & error by sharon lovejoy & the new self-sufficient gardener by john seymour.

the south garden (or the pepper & tomato patch) at the end of june: since the loss of the spinach plants in may’s excessive rains, i’ve been trying to keep the remaining pepper & tomato plants alive.

for the record, here’s what remains in the south garden: 1 hot banana pepper plant, 1 jalapeno plant, 4 bell pepper plants, 7 red cherry tomato plants.
