Running with purpose
While editing a manuscript, I came across this quote by Eric Liddell (actually, it’s a quote from the movie Chariots of Fire): ‘I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.’
That’s not how I felt last night after completing 4k in 30 minutes. It felt more like punishment rather than pleasure. I’m a beginner as far as it goes for long distance running. I will say, that there is something that occurs somewhere between nine to ten minutes into a running routine where the body seems to subjugate itself to the will of the spirit. At that point it is a balance between endurance and perseverance.

Happy Independence Day, “Smoke Signals”
“Happy Independence Day Victor, are you feeling independent?”- Arnold
one of my favorite movies…

the north garden patch at the end of june: i thought for sure that storm that came through on june 18 wiped out the sweet corn, but with kidlinger help the corn survives & thrives. it’s the pea plants that seemed to have withered (but i don’t believe the storm had anything to do with it).
again, for those keeping record: 4 pumpkin plants, 4 winter squash plants, 4 zuchini plants, 10 canaloupe plants, 4 cuccumber plants, 10 beefsteak tomoto plants & 6 cherry tomato plants.
also, 1 raccoon & 1 groundhog have been sited in night sorties.
less than $100 have been spent on the gardens. no pesticides or herbicides have been used with the exception of natural, organic pesticides (like cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon & the like).
the gardening strategy handbooks used: trowel & error by sharon lovejoy & the new self-sufficient gardener by john seymour.
the south garden (or the pepper & tomato patch) at the end of june

since the loss of the spinach plants in may’s excessive rains, i’ve been trying to keep the remaining pepper & tomato plants alive.
for the record, here’s what remains in the south garden: 1 hot banana pepper plant, 1 jalapeno plant, 4 bell pepper plants, 7 red cherry tomato plants.

fiddlin pig: thursday $5 lunch special includes a big boneless rib sandwich, side & drink… except i’m broke today…
